TOUR D'USSELSKIRCH ET CHEMIN DE CROIX

The Romanesque hexagonal tower of the former church of Usselskirch has survived 1000 years of history and remains an archaeological enigma. Its shape, height and blind arcature are unusual. The large 18th century church, classified as a historical monument in 1930, did not survive the bombing of the neighbouring Maginot Line during the Second World War. But the 1.40 metre thick walls of the old tower resisted. At the foot of the tower, eight stations (out of the original fourteen) of the 17th century Stations of the Cross can be observed
Unusual: On one side of the tower, a head of a Roman or pre-Christian statue.
