Colline du Bickenberg

The Bickenberg (400-500 metres above sea level) is one of the sub-Vosgean hills of the Rouffach region, together with the Bollenberg, Strangenberg and Zinnkoepflé.
The limestone compartments around Osenbach, including that of the Bickenberg, are characterised by their appearance of a plateau with steep edges, or even cliffs. This is the area of cultivation, particularly of vines. In the uncultivated areas, either rare and protected flora, resistant to dry soil conditions, or a forest with a floristic composition reminiscent of the Jura forest develops.
The site was classified as a protected zone by prefectoral decree of 11 December 1965. Its arid moors are home to a multitude of rare species, the oldest of which date back several millennia.
But the Bickenberg also conceals other testimonies of the past, linked to ancient human activities: the "steinrudel", or murgers in French, which are accumulations of pebbles, more or less organized, resulting from the stoning of fields. They differ from the stone walls that delimit agricultural plots in many countries with bocage by their size and by their primary function, which is not to limit the plots, but the stoning itself.

Access: on foot, from the centre of the village follow the blue diamond markings.
