The national necropolis, created in 1915, brings together the remains of soldiers who died for France in the fighting in the Hauts-de-Meuse region during the First World War.
It is located on the edge of the forest, on a hillside 800 meters from the village of Les Eparges.
2960 bodies of French army soldiers lie there, including Robert Porchon, a friend of Maurice Genevoix.
At the center of the necropolis, a monument in Euville stone has been erected for the unknown soldiers (852) gathered in the ossuary.
