Coteau viticole le Kefferberg

Twenty kilometres from Strasbourg, the thirty hectares of the Kefferberg hillside are part of the Couronne d'Or vineyard, one of the oldest vines in Alsace. As early as the 4th century, vines were planted on these slopes near Argentoratum (the Roman name for Strasbourg) and patrician villas between Kirchheim and Marlenheim.

The terroir of Kefferberg is composed of clay interspersed with calcaro-gressy layers. Its gentle slopes, its south-facing orientation and its micro-climate make it extraordinarily resistant to drought, reinforced by the silica on the surface, which has a "magnifying glass" effect and warms the soil. This heat gives the dry wines a relatively subtle acidity, a rich substance and aromas that make them great wines for gastronomy.

While below the hillside flows the river la Bruche which favours the development of botrytis (grey rot) on the grapes and transforms the wines into fabulous sweet and syrupy wines; to taste therefore the Late Harvest and the Sélection de Grains Nobles.

All the Alsatian grape varieties grow in the vineyards of Ergersheim. It is easily accessible and offers magnificent views: the Vosges, the cathedral of Strasbourg, the chapel Saint-Michel d'Ergersheim (the last remnant of a village destroyed during the Thirty Years War).
