Created under the scientific direction of paleoanthropologist Jean Louis HEIM, the museum's nine areas of interest focus on the Neanderthal period, around the reconstruction of the Neanderthal pit and skeleton discovered in 1908 by Jean Bouyssonie. Numerous events for adults and children: prehistory café and scientific lectures, Grande Fête de la Préhistoire: prehistoric book fair, European prehistoric weapons shooting championship, workshops and demonstrations on flintknapping, jewellery-making... . Educational workshops: "Become a prehistoric man", child-friendly tours and workshops in July and August
