The Marèges viewpoint offers panoramic views of the Auvergne mountains, the Haute-Dordogne gorges and the SH dam and hydroelectric power stations. The Marèges dam has served as a model for more than 90 dams around the world. It is the first double-curved dam in France.
The bucolic path leading to the viewpoint starts at the Mole plateau. It then winds through the undergrowth where you can see the hooks for the anti-aircraft balloons installed by German troops during the Second World War.
The trail then leads to a platform specially designed by the SHEM (Société Hydro-Electrique du Midi). An orientation table allows you to identify the main peaks visible from this viewpoint. Located in a Natura 2000 area, the site is home to a wide variety of birds, including protected species such as the red kite.
