The Moulin de Chitré is a former common mill dating back to the Middle Ages, linked to the château of the same name.
After producing flour and oil, the mill was equipped with avant-garde machinery at the end of the 19th century: an electric generator, a water pump and a cooler, all powered by a powerful "Sagebien" wheel. At the time, few sites were able to bring together in one place all the "new technologies" inherited from the Industrial Revolution.
The attic of the Moulin de Chitré has been converted into a museum on the theme of water and the Pinail nature reserve.
The belvedere offers a splendid and unique view of the banks of the Vienne, with its dam and 15th-century porte marinière in front of you. At the Moulin de Chitré, you'll also find a reception area, an exhibition room, a natural garden, picnic tables and an outdoor swimming pool
