Located at the entrance to the cemetery, the chapel stands on the site of an ancient oratory that existed there in the 13th century. At that time, it was still called "Chapelle Notre Dame des Neiges", but from the 14th century onwards, the name "Chapelle Notre Dame des Garennes" was adopted, due to the surrounding woods.
