Situated at the extreme end of the Ballon d'Alsace chain, Les Chaumes offers a magnificent view of the Thur and Doller valleys
The word "Rossberg" refers to the wild horses that lived there until the 16th century (Ross means horse in German).
The farms of Obere, L'untere and Mittlere Rossberg were distinguished; only the latter will survive and maintain an agricultural activity, the others remain only a heap of stones
With the arrival of skiers on the slopes of the Rossberg in 1906, chalets and a ski lift were built. The stubble is a vast grazing area where cows, sheep and horses can be encountered
In the centre of the Massif are the Vogelsteine (1165m), rocky promontories of volcanic origin, a favourite place for fragile rock flora.
