In 1959, André Malraux, then Minister of Culture, presented François Schleiter, Mayor of Verdun, with 16 monumental statues representing Generals and Marshals from the First and Second Empires, as well as from the First World War. They were originally intended to adorn the boulevards of Paris. These historical figures include Cambronne, Oudinot, Exelmans, ?
