Before his flight to abstract art, John Théry experimented with figurative painting during his adolescence, but very quickly, he could not help but marvel at the spontaneous effects of ink and centrifugal force.
He then immersed himself in the experiments of the sculptor Jean Tin- guely and the painter Yves Klein. But where he found himself the most was in the ac- tion painting movement inaugurated by Jackson Pollock. This movement translates into gestural painting, which leaves all the room to the way the canvas is made. It is in fact the energy, the emotion, the thoughts of the painter that are projected, sometimes literally, onto the blank canvas. John Théry then initiated himself, from all his influences, into a technique combining speed and painting called Spin Painting.
