At 492 metres, the Pic de l'Ours is one of the highest peaks in the Estérel.
The summit is marked by a white radar sphere station , visible from afar. This is an air traffic radar of the French Air Force .
It is accessible via well-marked trails. Hikers often start from Col Notre-Dame (easier, shorter) or Col du Testanier (longer loop possible).
The 360° view of the coast, the Estérel and the Alpes-Maritimes is even described by many hikers as more spectacular than Cap Roux, as you see more inland peaks and the entire coastline from Fréjus to Antibes.
The name “Pic de l'Ours” means “bear peak”, but there have never been any bears here. The name may come from the shape of the massif – some say it resembles a sleeping bear. There are also medieval legends about bear spirits in the forest.
