This sturdy defensive tower – built in 1520 by the monks of the Lérins Abbey (on the island of Île Saint-Honorat near Cannes).
At the time, they owned extensive land in the region and wanted to protect their interests from pirates and other hostile forces. The tower served as a coastal defense against attacks by Barbarian pirates who regularly attacked the coast of southern France in the 16th century.
Today, the Tour Carrée houses a museum of local history and folklore, with permanent exhibitions on local traditions, fishing, and the village itself.
The tower platform offers a magnificent panoramic view of the harbour, the city and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
