La Barthelasse is countryside in the city. The biggest river island in Europe, La Barthelasse is 700 hectares of farmland overlooking the Palace of the popes. There are lots of woods on the island, home to many species of birds, and the island is also home to beavers and otter, proof of preserved nature.
