Menton is an ideal starting point to discover the easternmost part of the Côte d'Azur. What better way to start than a brisk walk to Monaco, the paradise of the rich.
Most of them take the car or train to the center of Monaco, but we decide to go there on foot. In this way we can enjoy the beautiful scenery around Menton and Monaco. We are always in the company of the azure waters of the Mediterranean Sea. In the distance, we see Monaco slowly looming. The coastline is flanked by high-rise buildings typical of the 70s.
The hiking trail between Menton and Monaco is beautifully landscaped and constantly flirts between land and water. Along the way are fragrant pines. The sea glides against the white rock walls and the sun shines in the clear water. Later, we see a helicopter landing at one of the huge houses along the coast. It is a very beautiful and pleasant walk and we would like to recommend them to everyone.
After 9 kilometers of walking, we arrive in Monte Carlo, best known for the casino. We feel like a real James Bond and enter the casino - albeit in shorts and shirt. The gaming tables are located in a secluded, chic neighborhood. We gladly leave the casino and enjoy the fashionable setting with sports cars and large fountains on the Casinoplein.
All of Monaco seems littered with expensive brand sports cars. In this second smallest country in the world - only Vatican City is smaller - a lot of money circulates. This is also evident in the huge apartment buildings that are packed along the coast of the city of Monaco. Everything looks a lot like the 70s, the most modern blocks are not. Nevertheless, it costs capital to buy or rent something here.
On a hill is Old Monaco. Along wide stairs, hordes of tourists crawl. There, we are entitled to a beautiful panorama of the port and the rest of the lower town. Old Monaco consists of a large empty square with the dilapidated Prince's Palace, the Prince's Palace. Behind the palace are narrow streets full of small terraces and shops. There is a warm atmosphere and time flies.
Before we know it, night is falling on the city. From Old Monaco, we have a beautiful overview of the port and the sea.
In the evening we do not return to Menton on foot, but we take the train. In Monaco train station you can eat from the ground. Money is really creeping in all over here.
