Whoolsthorpe is famous for the apple of Newton. Or at least that's what the legend tells us. The legend says that Newton saw an apple fall from the tree that inspired him to his theory of gravity. He stayed in Whoolsthorpe at age 25 because there was a plague outbreak in Cambridge. A descendant of the tree can be found today in the Botanical Gardens in Cambridge.
