Pelion has a dense network of streams and natural springs, which are the result of the high altitude of Mount Pelion (up to 1471 metres) and the abundant rainfall that falls in this area. This ensures a constant supply of clear water that flows through the landscape, creating streams, springs and traditional stone fountains everywhere. These water sources were also historically used to supply villages with fresh water and are connected by old paved paths (kalderimis) that connect the villages. The combination of mountains, forests and water makes Pelion a particularly green and lively area, where water plays an important role in daily life and local culture.
