It was here in the main entrance to the Bay of Navarino that on the 8 of October 1827 the united fleets of the Great Powers blocked at noon the gulf of Pylos or the Bay of Navarino. In the afternoon, 60 out of 89 Turkish-Egyptian ships and 6000 seamen were sent to the depths of the gulf, 45 m under the sea. This historical battle in history would get know as the Battle of Navarino.
