Šibenik

Šibenik is a beautiful city on the Adriatic coast in central Dalmatia. The city is sheltered in a bay at the mouth of the Krka River. The cobbled alleys and maze of streets give the town an Italian medieval charm. Unlike most Croatian cities, Šibenik was not founded by the Romans but by the Croats themselves in the 9th century, meaning there are no parallel streets, only diagonal ones. The Croats did not make a plan like the Romans, but at every intersection, there is a sort of square where residents gather.

They built their city on a rocky hill, and over the centuries, various forts were built to defend the old town. In the 20th century, the city focused on industry, so the surroundings have less appealing sights.
