Michel Sardou's biggest hit in Belgium and the Netherlands is about this area: "Les lacs du Connemara". Composer Jacques Revaux was the first to come up with the music, which reminded him very much of Scotland. Sardou and Delanoë's idea was to write a text for it with Scottish references, but when they discovered that they actually knew nothing about Scotland, the focus shifted to Ireland. If the song is played for a large audience at an event or party, it is customary in Flanders to spin circles in the air with a napkin or handkerchief to the beat of the music.
