The sleepy town of Aquileia, was once a popular destination for many seeking access to the sea. The first apostles from Jerusalem are said to have landed here before spreading Christianity across Europe. The Amber Street, belonging to the network of Roman roads, ends in Aquileia. In addition to the ruins in Aquileia, which have been left lying for all to see, the town also exhibits the fabulous mosaic in the Basilica of Aquileia. The mosaic dates back to the second century B.C. and is considered the most important early italian floor mosaic.
