The "Rufina" wine region is the smallest among the famous Chianti areas. The "Classico," the "Colle Fiorentini," and the "Montalbano" are perhaps slightly better known, but with 12,500 hectares spread across the municipalities of Dicomano, Londa, Pomino, Pontassieve, Pelago, and of course Rufina, we can still speak of a respectable area, with a host of vineyards and wine cellars.
The Rufina-Chianti is of course a DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata Garantita), so the process is strictly defined and controlled. The vines are 75% Sangiovese grapes, and the alcohol content is at least 12.5%. Cheers!
Be aware that there is also a Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina DOCG... ideal for dipping cantucci cookies!
