The Torre Guinigi is one of the defining towers in Lucca. Particularly, the old oaks that grow on top of the forty-five meter tall tower contribute to its characteristic appearance. The tower was built by the Guinigi family, who planted these trees on the roof as a symbol of rebirth. The tower is now owned by the city of Lucca and is open to visitors. From the tower, there is a beautiful view over the city and its many monuments. However, you must climb the 230 steps to get there.
