The building is of Romanesque origin, as can still be seen from the facade, but underwent major renovations on the inside in 1656. Also known as Santa Maria in Borgo Bambini (perhaps from an apparition of the Madonna with the "Blessed Child") and Santa Maria del Soccorso (from a Maria image brought from the vanished church of San Girolamo dei Gesuati), she stood on the north side of Ceppo Hospital.
Disbanded as a parish in 1784 by Bishop Scipione de' Ricci, it was the seat of the brotherhood of Sant'Omobono, the patron saint of tailors.
The exterior is recognizable only by the portal with a broken semicircular tympanum, while the interior still shows the venerated fresco of the Virgin of Succession.
