The San Felice well in Volterra is one of the most important hydraulic structures of the medieval city and consists of a large stone basin, partly dug into the ground, which is protected by a roof supported by two stone arches.
The structure leans against the slope, and the rear and side walls are masonry.
We know from an inscription on the facade that the fountain was built in 1319 under the direction of Chelino Ducci Tancredi by order of the balitori of the contrada of Santo Stefano.
The Source, still accessible via the old pavement, was built on the model of the Fonte di Docciola, built eighty years earlier on the other side of the city.
