Villa Aurea was the residence of the English army captain Sir Alexander Hardcastle from 1925 to 1932 .
He in fact decided to establish his residence in this city, where he lived until his death in 1933. To this end, the captain purchased a beautiful country villa, located between the Temple of Concordia and that of Hercules, which he called Villa Golden . because it is close to the eponymous gate of the ancient fortifications.
The villa's garden, rich in vegetation, partly overlaps with the early Christian necropolis of which two hypogea (underground spaces) and some tombs are visible (3rd-6th century AD).
Today, Villa Aurea houses some of the park's technical and representative offices and hosts exhibitions . It is surrounded by a lush garden with typical and exuberant Mediterranean vegetation and the presence of numerous exotic species.
