The main portal was moved from the west side to the south side and a large square was constructed in front of it. The Gothic-Catalan style portico, with three arches, built around 1465 on the south facade, today forms the main entrance to the cathedral.
The first column , on the left, belonged to the original cathedral and mosque , as evidenced by an Arabic inscription, with a verse from the Qur'an, in the column. The statues of the portal were made between 1426 and 1430 by Antonio Gambara, while the wooden leaves from 1432 were made by Francesco Miranda.
The mosaic depicting Madonna dates from the thirteenth century. There are two monuments on the walls that commemorate the coronation of Charles III and Victor Amadeus II, the last king to be crowned here in December 1713.
