The Kuelscheier
The Kuelscheier is a rock formation with a special attraction in the middle: a dark, narrow rock tunnel that is closed at the top. It was formed when sandstone blocks were separated by fissures along the cliff face. A water source beneath the rocks marks the transition from permeable sandstone to the underlying, less permeable clay marl.
The rock passage is sometimes so narrow that only "one-way traffic" is possible. A flashlight is needed to explore the rock tunnel along a path.
The name "Kuelscheier" likely comes from the fact that charcoal from nearby coal mines was temporarily stored in the gorges of the rock formation. The fissures served as a kind of storage and thus received the name "Kuelscheier".
The Kuelscheier is part of our hikes:
- Detour over the Rittergang, Déiwepëtz, and the Kuelscheier near Consdorf
- Adventurous Müllerthal - rock crevices, rock tunnel, a waterfall, and many rock formations
