The European Image Route of Peace
is a project that we owe to the sculptor Professor Leo Kornbrust (born in 1929). More than 35 years ago, he initiated the first symposium of sculptors in Saarland in St. Wendel. Together with fellow artists from around the world, Kornbrust worked on the outdoor sculptures in the countryside in 1971/72. In the 1980s, these were integrated into "the image route" around St. Wendel. Professor Kornbrust dedicated this new section to the Jewish sculptor Otto Freundlich. Freundlich was born in Stolp - now Slupsk in Poland - and was murdered in a concentration camp in 1943. Shortly before his deportation, he and his wife, the artist Jeanne Kosnick-Kloss, developed the idea of two image routes: one from north to south, the other from west to east. Both were intended as a symbol of international understanding, peace, solidarity, and freedom. For a long time, the St. Wendel route was considered the first part of the approximately 3000 km long route from west to east.
Since 2004, many people have worked to realize this route in its full length. To achieve this goal, the "Verein Straße des Friedens" was founded. Meanwhile, an international network of artists, art projects, peace initiatives, friends and patrons, cities, districts, and countries has emerged. The intention is to create a "chain" of sculptures from the Normandy coast to Russia, a series of striking and vibrant monuments of the peaceful co-existence of European nations. Not only in Germany, but also in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Poland, existing integrated and new sculptures and projects have been created.

NATURE PARK UPPER-SÛRE
During international symposia in the years 1995 and 1999, two sculpture paths were created around the artificial lake of the "Upper-Sûre" in Bilsdorf and Lultzhausen. The artistic design, the overall concept of the symposia, as well as the selection of locations made each work a place of residence and feeling. The walk itself is already an experience through the varied, winding landscape. The sculptures are in dialogue with the unique environment. The sculpture symposium in Bilsdorf began during the cultural year 1995 and was completed in 1996. Under the artistic direction of Pit Nicolas, 8 artists from 4 countries worked, giving the region a valuable total project. In Lultzhausen, the Luxembourg sculptor Bertrand Ney was responsible for the concept. In 1999, he invited five sculptors to organize a sculpture symposium in collaboration with the nature park center "Upper-Sûre", the municipality of Neunhausen, and several associations from this municipality. In Lultzhausen, 6 sculptures by artists from 6 countries were created. In Boulaide and between Eschdorf/Esch-sur-Sûre, two new sculptures were made in the year 2007; the sculpture at Eschdorf was replaced by a new sculpture in 2017.
THE GARDEN OF WILTZ
Plants, terraces, water, sculptures, paths, and stone fields form a living artwork of 2.5 hectares. The project initiated by artists offers opportunities for creation and work for both disabled and non-disabled people. Responsible authority: COOPÉRATIONS vzw.
In the so-called "Kaul," a 100-year-old ruin overgrown by trees and bushes (an unrealized sanatorium for people with tuberculosis), a sculpture by Edmée Marth was installed in the year 2006.
