Lucas Janszoon Waghenaer was born in 1533 in Enkhuizen. He would become a famous cartographer. He is the author of the work "Spieghel der Zeevaert", the oldest printed sea-atlas. These maps have standard symbols for anchorage, water hazards, beacons and buoys.
