Basilica of Liduina and Our Lady of the Rosary has been the main place of veneration for Saint Lidwina since 1969. Many of her relics are housed in this church. In the past, most of her bones were kept in the Carmel of Brussels. Saint Lidwina was born on March 18, 1380. When she fell while skating and broke her ribs at the age of 15, her wounds became festering and cancerous growths appeared on her body. This also led to blindness in one eye. She lived only on apples and wine. She died 19 years after her accident. She is attributed with the gift of bilocation (being present in two places at once). In 1418, a major plague epidemic broke out, which was also attributed to her intervention. Her house was also spared during the great fire of Schiedam in 1428. On her feast day, April 14, the places where she worked in Schiedam are visited, as well as the location of her fall on the ice.
