In 1892, the first public bathhouse in Alkmaar was opened on Kwerenpad. The building was visited for many years by those who had no bathroom facilities at home. The bathhouse was built during the period when the first villas in the Emmakwartier were equipped with their own bathrooms with bathtubs. Of course, there were different visiting times for ladies and gentlemen at the bathhouse!
This bathhouse was designed by the city architect, G. Looman, in the then nationally beloved neo-Renaissance style.
