Between Olst and Wijhe, in the floodplains of the IJssel, lies the nature reserve Duursche Waarden. In 1989, a large nature development project was carried out here. This made the Duursche Waarden the first area in the Netherlands where nature along the river was given more space again. Due to more variable water levels, a more diverse (and river-appropriate) ecosystem is returning to the floodplains. The area itself is not completely freely accessible. Nevertheless, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy nature. There is a boots path between the bird hide and the observation tower at Fortmond. So there are plenty of reasons to visit the new nature in the Duursche Waarden. For more information www.staatsbosbeheer.nl
