The name 'Baarlo' means 'Wild Forest' (Baar=bar and Lo(o)=forest). The church of Baarlo was demolished, but the cemetery still exists. Here lies master J. de Dood buried, he was the last schoolmaster in the hamlet of 'Nederland'. When he was out walking, people said, 'death wades through Nederland'. After his death in 1892, the school was moved to the nearby 'Wetering'.
