The current royal Palace was the former town hall of Amsterdam. It was built between 1648 and 1665.
Napoleon converted the town hall into a palace in 1808. In the 20th century, the building was restored to its original state. The balcony that the king had built was removed. In 1960, the building was partially opened to the public.
