The Haarlemmermeerse Bos is a 115-hectare, park-like area northwest of Hoofddorp. The forest was planted in the 1970s, then officially opened to the public in 1979 and has become a regional attraction. Events are regularly held in the forest, such as the annual Mysteryland and Concours Hippique. In 2002 the Floriade took place in a part of the forest, so this part was closed for a while and during the Floriade only accessible with an entrance ticket. There are still some remnants of the Floriade 2002 in the forest, such as the Haarlemmermeer pavilion, the exhibition building and the Big Spotters Hill.
