Sint-Pietersberg

Source: Rembrandt van Rijn

Description

Rembrandt's Night Watch was hidden during World War II here in the caves of the Sint Pietersberg. It had already been at a number of other places such as in the dunes of Castricum and at the Radboud castle in Medemblik. In April 1942, the Night Watch was transported from the imperial vault of Heemskerk in the dunes of Castricum to the marl caves here. On June 25 1945, the painting arrived back by barge in Amsterdam.
