Lourdes cave Cauberg

The Lourdes grotto is located on the slope of the Couberg behind a spacious square with benches. It is an exact copy of the original in France.

The grotto was excavated in 1926 on the initiative of Pastor Hermans according to a design by J. Ras. In 1929, based on a design by architect Dils, the hardstone sacristy and the accompanying kiosk for the sale of religious articles were built. The statue of Bernadette from the workshop of Linssen was created in 1934. J. Eymael made the pulpit to the right of the altar.

The grotto is carved into the marl wall. Above the grotto, there is a statue of Mary, and to the right of the grotto, there is a pulpit. To the left of the grotto are the sacristy and the kiosk. The statue of Bernadette is also to the left.

Inside the grotto, there is an altar on a hardstone platform with two access steps. Behind the altar, there is the possibility to light candles.
