Grootegast is a village in the municipality of Westerkwartier in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. The village was until 2018 the main place of the eponymous municipality of Grootegast. The village has 3,350 inhabitants. The village originated around the year 1000 and was positioned from 1400 as a counterpart to Lutjegast. The village contains a 17th-century church, the so-called Witte Kerkje. This church was restored in 1829.
