Meerssen is a village in the southern part of Limburg (Netherlands). Since January 1, 1982, it has been the main town of the municipality of the same name, Meerssen. Together with Bunde and Rothem, the place forms a densely populated area north of the provincial capital Maastricht. Meerssen has approximately 5,840 inhabitants.
The Basilica of the Holy Sacrament, in its current form dating from the 14th century, is a showcase of Maas Gothic architecture. This church contains a 12-meter high sacrament tower, in memory of the miracles that are said to have occurred here.
