Neerkant is a village in the municipality of Deurne, in the Dutch province of North Brabant, located on the border with Limburg, near Meijel.Neerkant originated along the old road through the Peel. The oldest known mention of the name Neercant dates from the account year 1622/1623. The explanation of the name Neerkant is surrounded by numerous fantasies. For example, Willibrord would have settled there on the side of the road or it would be a corruption of the Netherlands. Historically and linguistically, however, all this can be referred directly to the realm of fables. The name Neerkant can be explained as a settlement at the end of the populated area and reflects its isolated location.
