Kelpen-Oler is a church village in Limburg and is part of the municipality of Leudal. The village has around 1,145 inhabitants. The first mention of Kelpen and Oler appears in a charter from the year 1329, in which Gerard, Lord of Horn, grants his free estate Wessem along with all its dependencies to William VI of Guelders. Among those referred to as belonging to Wessem are "villarum de Kelpen et de Oirle," or the hamlets of Kelpen and Oler. However, some archaeological finds, such as urns and stone tools, in both Kelpen and Oler, indicate that this area was also inhabited during prehistoric times.
