The landscape south of Breda has largely been shaped by the planting of many forests by nobles in the 16th century. The area features the oldest and most impressive forests in the wider region, interspersed with heathlands, peat bogs, forest pastures, and small ponds. The Burgundian lifestyle here is further emphasized by the many estates, stately avenues, and winding brooks. Additionally, the beautiful views along the meandering Mark River, the Chaamse Woods, and the largest summer oak forest in the Netherlands contribute to a stunning green and park-like environment in the Barony of Breda.
