The Wijnhuistoren in Zutphen is an example of a belfry with chimes. The tower was built between 1616 and 1642 and is part of the inn "to Vreden", which is already mentioned before 1326. The oldest construction phase is still present in the basement and dates from around 1300. In addition to that of an inn, the function of Vreden or Het Wijnhuis was also a city house, the home of the city guard and the place of public announcements by the city council.
