Kotten is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Kotten covers an area of over 13 km² and had 820 inhabitants on 1 January 2009. Although it has a small village center, the place is formally a hamlet. The postal address is Winterswijk-Kotten. Kotten is located east of Winterswijk. Between Kotten and Winterswijk lies the hamlet of Brinkheurne. Kotten is located near the border with Germany, directly across the border is the German village of Oeding, a hamlet of Südlohn. With this village there was a lot of traffic throughout history, both ordinary trade, smuggling and mixing. Many family names can therefore be found on both sides of the border.
