The Bonkevaart is a canal on the northeast side of the city of Leeuwarden in the Dutch province of Friesland. The water is famous for the arrival of the Elfstedentocht, which has been taking place here since the Elfstedentocht of 1985. The eastern part of the Bonkevaart runs just north of the Groningerstraatweg. The western part forms the northern boundary of the Vrijheidswijk. It connects the Ouddeel with the Dokkumer Ee near Snakkerburen. On old maps, such as the Veldminuut from 1854, "De Bonken" is mentioned.
