We drive into the Sibbergrubbe (grubbe is another word for hollow road) sibbe. As in Geulhen and Bregen Terblijt, there is also a labyrinth of tunnels beneath the village here. The marl houses above ground therefore originate from underground!! The extraction of marl dates back to the 15th century, the material itself is about 70 million years old and consists of 98% limestone, which in turn comes from billions of marine organisms that lived here in the limestone sea.
