The Wezenputten are two monumental wells near the Texel village of Oudeschild. In the era of the VOC, the ships on the Reede van Texel were waiting for favorable winds. On the island, among other things, provisions and drinking water were stocked, with the water coming from the orphan's wells for a long time. Due to the iron content, Texel's water had a long shelf life, which was important for ships that had no other sources of drinking water until the Cape of Good Hope. At some point the wells were given into the ownership of the regents of the orphanage in Den Burg, which thus had a source of income. In 1676 it was laid down that residents of Texel also had to pay for water from the well.
