In the middle of the vast polder landscape of West Zeeuws-Vlaanderen lies Zuidzande [Suusande]. The name of the village is composed of sand 'sandbar' and south 'southern' located. In the13th century it was an island located south of the former Island of Cadzand. On the village square, in the heart of the village, there is a restaurant in the former Reformed Church. This church was withdrawn from worship in 1996, making the village the first churchless village in Zeeland.
