The orphanage was founded in 1553 by Hid Hero Jelbethdr. A figurative relief on a Mannerist facade depicts a woman extinguishing the fire of sins. The sculptural work of a small gate dates from 1660. In 1865, the old main building was replaced by a building designed by L. Levoir, executed in eclectic styles, featuring a basement, an attic, and a central risalit with a dormer. Between 1875 and 1877, a wing from 1808 was replaced according to plans by H. Bouma. The former orphanage was remodeled in 1951 and 1978.
